A survey of almost 1,200 CFP® professionals by the Foundation for Financial Planning found interest in pro bono work was off the charts, with 88% of respondents saying their CFP Board Registered Program should offer more content and support to students on pro bono service, and 83% preferring to work at a firm that encourages it.

The Foundation for Financial Planning is excited to help fill this gap by offering a new flexible and dynamic curriculum designed to prepare aspiring and early-career financial planners to engage in pro bono service, while giving educators practical tools to integrate pro bono into their teaching.  Developed for use in CFP Board Registered Programs and with professionals new to pro bono planning, Serving with Purpose: The Path to Pro Bono Financial Planning guides participants through four core topics, each broken into focused units that build awareness, skills, and a sense of purpose. Through a blend of reflection, role play, and applied learning, students will be able to explore the value of pro bono work, strengthen their interpersonal communication, and connect their service to their evolving professional identity.

In this webinar on January 15, 2026 at 12:00pm eastern, two developers of the curriculum, Dorothy B. Durband, Ph.D., AFC® (Texas Tech University) and Sasha Grabenstetter, M.S., AFC®, BFA™ (eMoney Advisor) will provide an overview of the resource, touching on:

• Why pro bono financial planning matters;
• The topics that are covered;
• The materials that are included including activities, discussion guides, templates, worksheets, and more and;
• How to embed the curriculum into your program, and determine which of the various course formats fit best.
