After Innocence provides post-release assistance to America’s exonerees – individuals released after having been imprisoned for crimes they did not commit – the majority of whom never received meaningful compensation for the time they lost, nor reliable help rebuilding their lives. Through a grant from FFP, After Innocence pilot a program to provide one-on-one pro bono financial guidance and advice to exonerees.

Supported by the FFP, Angel Foundation’s Financial Cancer Care program connects cancer patients in Minnesota with a social service professional and a Pro Bono Certified Financial Planner™ through financial workshops and one-on-one meetings. The goal of the Financial Cancer Care program is to provide financial education, decrease anxiety about managing finances, and peace of mind as individuals and families impacted by cancer are navigating the overwhelming effects of cancer-related financial toxicity.

Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation pursues strategies to close gaps in family and community wealth to ensure all families in Central Brooklyn are prosperous and healthy.  Through a grant from FFP, Restoration will work with the Financial Planning Association of New York to provide our clients with the opportunity to receive investment information and advice from CFPs.

Britepaths has two distinct one-on-one financial literacy efforts that it has combined into “A Brighter Path to Financial Stability” program, funded in part by FFP. The program supports low- and middle-income individuals through one-touch Financial Counseling sessions, as well as deeper long-term financial help through one-on-one mentoring.  Britepaths has opened a one-stop shop for financial coaching, workforce development and other wrap-around services supported in part by FFP and the United Way, called the Financial Empowerment Center.

The Caroline Center embraces a holistic approach to job training by incorporating essential skills as part of its curriculum, as well as providing enduring, individualized support to every woman. With FFP’s support, Caroline Center will be able to add to the arsenal of services it provides, further empowering women by enabling them to meet one-on-one with CFP® professionals.

The CASH Campaign of Maryland promotes economic advancement for low-to-moderate income individuals and families in Baltimore and across Maryland. Its Financial Coaching Expansion Project integrates one-on-one sessions with pro bono financial planners into CASH’s well established financial coaching program.

As a LISC Financial Opportunity Center (FOC), Chinese Community Center provides public benefits access, career education, financial education and coaching, and career services that help low- to- moderate income families improve their financial bottom lines. Through a grant from FFP, CCC will connect clients with pro bono financial planners to support them on their paths to financial stability.

The Coordinated Assistance Network is a secure cloud-based platform for individuals who seek help from nonprofits in the areas of finances, housing, employment, benefits, education, counseling, and more.  With support from FFP, CAN seeks to advance it technology platform to create a new financial planning offering, and then recruit CFP volunteers to serve individuals in need.

Family Reach,  in partnership with FFP and the FPA, developed the Financial Planning for Cancer Program which pairs cancer patients and their families with pro bono financial planners to help them manage cash flow and debt during cancer treatment. This program leverages a digital hub that matches CFP® professionals with patients and caregivers to ensure consistent professional standards, and an eLearning program that ensures CFP’s®  are equipped to provide families facing cancer with the best support possible.

Supported by FFP, FPA®’s Pro Bono Program activates financial planning volunteers to deliver pro bono services to people in need, helping underserved individuals and families—including low- to moderate-income individuals, inmates, young adults, military, domestic violence survivors, homeless individuals and more—to build assets and improve their lives.

With the support of FFP, Franklin University, Columbus State Community College & The Ohio State University will conduct a pro-bono community project to engages volunteer CFP® professionals with financial-planning students to provide free financial planning sessions to student-clients in need of financial guidance. The project will further explore the impact of the community project on CFP® professionals and student-planners’ attitudes toward pro-bono work through formal impact evaluation.

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a nonprofit CDFI that supports community development initiatives in 37 cities and through a rural program that reaches more than 2,200 counties in 45 states. LISC works with a vast network of community partners, including through over 100 Financial Opportunity Centers® (FOCs). FOCs provide income supports as well as career and financial coaching services that help low- to- moderate income families improve their finances. Working with Chinese Community Center and Wesley Community Center, LISC will pilot the integration of pro bono financial planning into the FOCs’ existing programming.

In partnership with Building Homes for Heroes (BHH), the NAPFA Consumer Education Foundation (NCEF) provides pro bono financial planning services to wounded veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts, through which NAPFA Certified Financial Planner® volunteers are matched with a veteran for up to a 2-year period.

Together with the Pro Bono Committee of the Financial Planning Association of Minnesota, Prepare + Prosper will boost the integration of financial planning within its free tax, financial coaching, and financial inclusion programs, in order to more effectively help its customers build long-term financial health through a financial continuum of care that better routes customers to financial counseling, financial coaching, and/or financial planning.

The Smart With Your Money Financial Planning Clinics connect low-income and underserved populations—many of them active military or veterans—with pro bono financial planners to assist them on their path to financial well-being and self-sufficiency. Due to COVID-19, for the foreseeable future the clinics will be virtual to give individuals the opportunity to work with a planner in a private, convenient and safe manner.

The Savvy Ladies Helpline is a free resource offered to women who are in need of guidance regarding their personal finances. The Helpline supports women by arranging a confidential telephone consultation with a Certified Financial Planner™ who assists them with their specific needs. Through a grant from FFP, Savvy Ladies will increase the impact and reach of the hotline, serving more women via the adoption of technology to facilitate matching callers and volunteers.

For over ten years, Wesley Community Center has offered wrap-around services to Houstonians through LISC’s Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) program, career and financial coaching service centers that help low- to moderate- income families improve their finances. WCC’s partnership with FFP will connect clients with pro bono financial planners to support them on their paths to financial stability. FOC financial coaches will work with pro bono financial planners to coordinate delivery of services through comprehensive supportive programming.

Wings for Widows is working with FFP to match pro bono CFP professionals with recently widowed men and women nationwide. CFP coaches work with their widow-clients over four sessions, on average, to address their largest concerns and nine other financial topics applicable to most widows. Wing for Widows supports the CFPs to ensure to help clients gain financial clarity, resulting in control, confidence, and new peace of mind.

Working in Support of Education (W!SE) provides personal finance education to domestic violence survivors through its innovative MoneyW!SE program. With FFP’s support, survivors in Chicago and New York City will have the opportunity to take the MoneyW!SE course virtually, receive one-on-one financial counseling from FPA pro-bono financial planners, and become Certified Financially Literate™ by passing the W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Test.
